Contest Results

There was an unexplained and appreciated big jump in the number of visitors to this contest. 236 visited, 3 of whom voted. The winning problem, with 2 votes, was Prime Timing by Bill Salot. Gary Ellison and George Hay voted for it. Second with 1 vote was Bouncer by Melvyn Green (England), after a long absence from these contests. Third was Gosh, by Lloyd Gordon (Canada). Past stars Roy Little and Ed Atkinson did not leave any problems to enter in this category.

The International Voters’ Ladder for 2024 is still tight. After 3 contests, Liam Stephens (Ireland) and George Hay are tied after each picking 2 winners out of a possible 3, with 3 contests to go.

For the first time since Contest 2 (February 2012), we are launching a problem composing contest consisting entirely of original, unpublished problems that were not composed by Roy Little or Ed Atkinson. Perhaps you can guess who the composers are. They are from three different countries; they have recently published problems; and they look forward to your evaluation of their entries in this contest. These settings are giant strokes with minimal afterplay. They each have 16 pieces, and their solutions are similar in length and difficulty.

You are invited to view them all animated at this site, and vote for the one that impresses you most. The most popular entry will be decided by the votes of visitors to this website like you. Your vote will also let you see immediately how others are voting.

If you choose to e-mail Bill Salot at wjsalot@comcast.net, disclosing how you voted, you will be put on the International Voters Ladder to determine who the best winner-picker is. Voters on the upper rungs of the ladder are published with the results of each contest. At the end of the year, we will identify the Voter-of-the-Year.

If you want to contribute your own original, unpublished, checker problem for use in a future contest, please send it to the above e-mail address.

After you've reviewed the problems, cast your ballot in the box below.
